UOG Alumni Homecoming
I enjoyed our class on Monday. It really opened my eyes to what college life is going to be like. I enjoyed all the inspirational speeches, as well as the entertainment. It was great to see that even after so many years, the alumni still come back and support their alma mater. The speech from Dr. Underwood was really an eye opener for me. I never realized how much of a difference teachers made in our lives. Without teachers there really wouldn't be an profession. I hope to do more of these activities that engage us into the university. Thank you very much Dr. Rivera for including our class in this!
UOG HOMECOMING
On monday our class had the honor to attend UOG's 60th Anniversary and all i can say is that it was a pretty exciting event. President Dr. Underwood gave a speech about how teachers contribute to our society. He gave us a lot of examples like if there were no teachers we wouldnt have any lawyers, no doctors, no enviromental specialists. Dr. Underwood said that teaching is the profession that sets all profesions. Dr. Underwood speech was really inspiring. We also enjoyed singing and we were able to observe a dance group perform. At the end of the class Justin and I had some donuts! they were pretty good! I had a great time and now I see the importance of having teachers in our society.

UOG Alumni Homecoming.
The homecoming was amazing and it put the thoughts of what my homecoming will be like and how many people I will see there. It was wonderful seeing all sorts of generations come together to celebrate. The singing and dancing were amazing, I haven't seen such talent in a long time for a live performance, tells you how much I have gotten out. Dr. Underwood said many inspirational things but its not just teachers that teach, everyone in any job situation teach. They pass on knowledge and "tricks of the trade" to the young and from their they pass it on. So its not just teachers that teach, everyone teaches in some way or another.
UOG's 60th Anniversary Celebration
On Monday we spent the class time in room 129 at the SBPA building to celebrate UOG's 60th Anniversary. I am glad I got to experience this celebration with motivational speeches and entertainment. Dr. Underwood's speech about being a teacher and proud of it, was very inspirational because if we didn't have teachers we wouldn't have any other occupations. We had entertainment performed by the Star Gazers Dance Troop along with another dance performance, but I didn't catch the name. There were songs being performed by Lovely and Christian, they did an amazing job. To end all this fun everyone joined together in song.

01/25
Today, we learned about kinds of support for text based writing, which are explanations, references, and quotations. We learned about Modern Language Association. We read an essay, "The Struggle to be an All-American Girl." It was about a Chinese girl who didn't like her culture and found the western culture more interesting. She wasn't happy with it, but she knew she had to accept it.

Reading for Writing
On Monday was our first online discussion was on "Reading for Writing" and the topic was to discuss the importance of reading-based and text-based writing. Reading and test-based writing are important because they provide you with techniques to help you become a better reader. Majority of the time we don't understand or forget what we just read and end up having to go back to re-read the passage. So using these techniques can help you think critically and better understand what you are reading. This was my first time using the moodle website and it took me awhile to figure things out, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.
Practice Makes Perfect
I am glad that I am finally getting a hang of the blogging assignments. It is very true when they say that practice makes perfect. We had an online class on Monday, so I checked my email, blogger and moodle room more than ten times. I wanted to make sure I completed everything the right way. We have only met twice in class and I already feel that I have learned so much. The readings of the text and essays have really assisted me. I am glad that we do it as a class and not individually. I am more of a visual learner; the sample exercises and discussions serve me in that area.

January 25 Blog
Today was my first day in class and I really enjoyed the discussions and atmosphere. Today we discussed the MLA (Modern Language Association) format. I've learned MLA format before but today it was the main subject and it really got me to understand the exact way it goes. We read an essay called, "The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl", it is about a girl who is Chinese and American, and cannot accept the fact that she can't change who she is. She is in love with the American culture, she fights with being Chinese. I believe that everyone should be proud of who they are and where they came from, I know I am. I'm thrilled to sharpen my knowledge in this class. Nice meeting you all!

25JANUARY12
In today's class we learned about MLA (Modern Language Association) style. What this is teaching us is that when using material from a source we must give information so that the reader will be able to find its original context. I also tried to demonstrate the "Air Guitar" and I went up to the board to demonstrate MLA for "The struggle to be an All-American Girl" by Elizabeth Wong. Which is a history about a girl that's not happy about her heritage. I think everybody should be happy about their heritage because that's who you are.
Kinds of Support for Text-Based Writing
Today in class we learned about the MLA (Modern Language Association) and work citing. In the lesson we read an essay called "The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl" by Elizabeth Wong. The essay was about a Chinese Girl and the struggles she had with cultural identity. In a way I can relate myself to this girl because I was born a Chamorro, but the environment I grew up in was Americanized. Growing up my parents nor grandparents to the time to teach me the language of Guam and I spent majority of my education State Side. There are times where I regret not learning more about my culture because it is who I am.
Jan 25
Today I read a story about a Chinese girl who went to American for English. However, she had transformation from her culture. The culture reason cause her can not learn English. I had that kind of that situation before and I think as longest she open her mind to accept another she will be fine. Also, I learn about the MLA(modern language association)formation, this formation is very important for all college students such as, we might write a lot of research paper in the future. Therefore, it is better to learn this format as well.
Chapter 1:Reading for Thinking, Discussion, and Writing
Today was a lot of reading on one story and an Autobiography. It was very good augmentation because of the fact I haven't read in a group in a while, so I enjoyed it. I read the story "Listening to the Air" Guitar and I also got to demonstrate how to "play" the Air Guitar. I also read the Autobiography: The Struggle to be an All-American Girl. Got to meet new people and enhance my reading, listening, and writing skills a little more.
Second Day
Today we learned what MLA stands for; Modern Language Association. I've learned what it was before, but I guess it never seemed to stick. We also read an essay called, "The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl." She was Chinese and American, but wanted to be "All-American." I think that if you are multicultural, you should be proud of all that you are instead of just one. Being of many cultures could give you more to be proud of. Part of the discussion was to give her advice; many of my class mates had great advice to give her. One was, "Just be happy with who you are!" That is the best advice you could give anyone. I also give a thumbs up to my other class mates who had the courage to participate and speak up in class during the discussion!
Class day 2
Today we covered the Modern Language Association. Luis, went up and demonstrated how this is written out. I have never heard of this before and I was excited to learn something new and interesting that will help me progress on in my College career. Luis also demonstrated what an air guitar was, I think he could have rocked the guitar a little more but he did a great job in what he did. We did read an essay that touched close to me about a Chinese- American girl that wanted to be an "All American Girl". I felt for her in not wanting to learn the Chinese aspect of her life, but it made me sad that she didn't what to as well. Its just a sad thought that some people don't want to learn about their heritage. Heritage is a wonderful thing I believe you can learn so much about yourself and your family history.
Today in class we basically coverd the MLA format. covering a couple of essays using this format. Just to get a feel of the subject matter of the essay, a demonstration of an air guitar, terrific, entertaining, performance. We then read the essays and completed a verbal understanding excersise as well as a physical excersise involving one volunteer to do the work credit on the board.
Today's Activities and My First Day in Class
In today's lesson, we went over some stories in chapter one and in one of the essays, such as, "Listening to the Air Guitar," it was really touching. Throughout the essay, I thought about my moments where I "listened to the air". I am pretty sure everyone had their moments where they were in the mood to either dance to the music and as well as play the air guitar.
January 25, 2012 is my first day in the EN100 class, due to registering late. Although I am a shy person, I did not feel nervous, but only to be excited to meet new people. At first I did not know that this EN100 class was a hybrid of both online and in-class session. I have done blogs for my English class back in high school; however, it is still new to me. Because of this, I had a hard time figuring out how to work the moodleroom and the blogs online.

Reading for Writing.
I hope that I'm not the only one that now has a better understanding on how to find the important information in reading. I have always had a hard time figuring out what is important and what isn't, I would highlight full paragraphs thinking it was all important. I'm just excited I have more information on how to find the important factors in reading.

First day
Language is one of our enemy, however some people might find the tactics to deal with some people might not.English always is the biggest enemy for those people do not speak English. I was in EN085 class before and I put my effort to progress myself to be here. It is my greatest honor to attend this class and I will try my best to pass this class with a highest standard.

A College Student
On January 18, 2012, EN100 was my second class of my new college life. As I walked through the doors of the English and Communications building, I thought to myself, "This is it. College…here I come!" Out of all the decisions I will ever make in my life, this might be the most beneficial. I have never felt so many emotions at one time. I was surprised to see how small the class was. I was expecting to have a full class because of all the other students I saw waiting outside. When we received the syllabus along with the other handouts, I was beginning to feel intimidated. In spite of that, thanks to Dr.Rivera's thorough instructions, the intimidation was put at ease. I hope to make new friends, learn more, and have a great semester! Good luck everyone!

First day.
Hello,
It was wonderful meeting all of my peers for the first time. I'm glad that we have a small class size simply because I'm a little shy, but if I'm one on one with someone its not so bad. I can say I'm not really looking forward to peer reviews because I don't deal with criticism very well and I have never been comfortable with my peers reading my work. The only condition I am comfortable with them reading it is if I became really good friends with them, then I don't tend to mind so well. I'm looking forward to having a wonderful semester with you all and I hope you all do as well. Now I'm just hoping I am doing this right since I feel like I have no idea what I am doing since its been 3 years since I have been in school and this is the first time I have done this online.
Hope to read some of your blogs soon.
