January 25 Blog
Today was my first day in class and I really enjoyed the discussions and atmosphere. Today we discussed the MLA (Modern Language Association) format. I've learned MLA format before but today it was the main subject and it really got me to understand the exact way it goes. We read an essay called, "The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl", it is about a girl who is Chinese and American, and cannot accept the fact that she can't change who she is. She is in love with the American culture, she fights with being Chinese. I believe that everyone should be proud of who they are and where they came from, I know I am. I'm thrilled to sharpen my knowledge in this class. Nice meeting you all!

I'm glad that you had a wonderful first day. I agree though you should always be proud of who you are. I think I haven't met many people that are not proud of their heritage, I'm just glad that there are more people that accept who they are and try not to change it.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful for having such a small class. It makes it easier to get along with one another and become comfortable. I'm glad we went over the MLA format, too. Completing and going over the example together really helped me. I also believe that we should be proud of who we are and where we come from; it is what makes us who we are. It is nice meeting you too!
ReplyDeleteIt was my first time hearing about the MLA and I'm happy to say that I actually learned something new. I really liked that essay because in a way I can relate. I'm proud to be a Chamorro and I try to incorporate as much of my culture in my everyday life, yet I was raised in an Americanized environment so I never learned to speak my language.
ReplyDeleteI agree, being in a class with more than 15 people is difficult because you don't get to know everyone on a comfortable term. It was my first day and I knew I was going to work well with all our classmates, the vibe is great! I also am proud to be Chamorro, I dont speak the language but I'm very open to learning. We should all be proud, theres nothing wrong with learning a different culture but never forget where you came from.
